The University of Canterbury is New Zealand's major centre for research in astronomy. We operate the UC’s Mt John Observatory and are the only New Zealand university to offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in astronomy and astrophysics.

Professor Albrow will give a brief overview of the teaching programme, including the courses that are delivered to first-year through to fourth-year students, and the hands-on experiences that are provided.

He will also discuss the exciting research that is being done by academic staff and postgraduate students, which ranges from the detection of the smallest fundamental particles of matter through to the behaviour of the Universe on the largest scales.
