The completed HERCULES tank after first been assembled in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The tank had just been successfully put under a vacuum which indicated a hold-time of several months.

The complete optical system (as of November 2000) is shown below. The fibre and collimator are shown on the right and on the left is the Schmidt camera primary mirror and corrector plate.
The prism being figured at Industrial Research Limited, Lower Hutt (right). The left image shows a Twyman-Green interferometer test.
The prism and the echelle inserted in their cells (left). The view on the right is through the prism. A template showing the echelle footprint has been placed in place of the echelle.
