It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 14th NZ Institute of Physics Conference, incorporating Physikos, and the NZ Physics Teachers Conference.

The conference will take place at the University of Canterbury
in Christchurch from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th July 2009. This is a wonderful opportunity for the NZ physics research community to meet and present their latest ideas and results. It is also a chance for NZ physics teachers to meet and share ideas and interact with other physicists from around NZ and the world.

Plenary speakers include:

Fred Watson - Astronomer - abstract

John Campbell - Rutherford Biographer - abstract

Paul Callaghan - Alan MacDiarmid Professor of Physical Sciences - abstract

Gorazd Planinsic - Assoc Prof from the Faculty for Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana - abstract

Don Pettit - NASA

Special sessions will be arranged for current physics teachers whose training was in another field. The ChemEd conference for chemistry teachers will run over the same period at the same venue and there will be some shared plenary sessions. http://www.chem.canterbury.ac.nz/chemed09/

There will be an optional field trip to Mt John Observatory lead by Peter Cottrell and Alan Gilmore, immediately following the conference. This is your chance to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy with observations through telescopes!

During the conference subsidised childcare will be arranged. Please register early to take advantage of this.

Extended early bird registration available until :- 30th June 2009

Abstract submission for talks and work shops should be emailed to Dr Jenni Adams by 12th June 2009. (Note extended deadline)
