6 - 8 July 2009

Field Trip: Mount John Observatory

An overnight visit to the University's research observatory at Mt John (Lake Tekapo) is scheduled for Wednesday 8-9th July.  This trip will be lead by University of Canterbury Astronomers Peter Cottrell and Alan Gilmore

Minibuses will leave the university campus at 4pm on Wednesday, and visit the observatory on arrival in Tekapo with observing through the university telescopes possible if the weather allows. Accommodation will be arranged in Tekapo village and the minibuses will return to Christchurch by 12pm on Thursday 9th July.

The fee for the field trip is $100 and includes travel and accommodation but meals will be the responsibility of the participants.

Own arrangements for travel and accommodation are also possible but please let us know if you intend to do this as we need to know numbers that will be at the observatory. Note: the journey from Tekapo village up to the observatory may require chains.
